“Patients undergoing surgery on their hand and wrist benefit from postoperative physical therapy. They benefit most from therapy if the therapist has an excellent working knowledge of the anatomy and biomechanics of the hand and wrist, an understanding of the operative procedure performed, and the postoperative regimen that will both benefit the patient in maximizing return of function. It has been my experience that such an individual is most often one who is credentialed as a certified hand therapist by the Hand Therapy Certification Commission.” – Dr Andrew Palmer, Central New York Hand Center, Division Chief
Patients can be confident they are receiving the highest level of care because of the knowledge and understanding of their injury by a Certified Hand Therapist.
“Prior to physical therapy, I was unable to perform many day to day activities without assistance. The hand therapist team provided me with a consistent, structured exercise program and education about muscle function along with other treatment techniques. The hand therapy team has helped me regain function of my hand as I can now shave, tie my shoes and open jars without assistance.” - Harold Wanamaker MD
