Gwendolyn Dougherty


Professional Biography

Gwen is beginning her physical therapy career here at MLCPT. She received her BS in Health Sciences, Summa Cum Laude, in 2016 and achieved her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Nazareth College in Rochester, NY in 2018. During her final clinical rotation while in school, Gwen worked at the Guthrie Medical Center at Fort Drum Army Base treating and evaluating our nation's soldiers. While at Drum, she helped develop and teach a Beginner and an Advance Back Class for soldiers suffering from chronic back pain to help keep them mission ready.

Gwen works with the Western New York Wreckers - a wheelchair rugby team based in Rochester, NY. The team is composed of adult players who have suffered some form of spinal cord injury.  Gwen helps identify effective ways each player can utilize their injury to their advantage, as well as traveling with the team to rugby competitions throughout the Northeast and Canada.  Her work with the WNY Wreckers earned her an induction into the Pro Bono National Honor Society. She is also an active volunteer at both the Syracuse and Canandaigua Veteran Affairs Hospitals, making time to help the recreational therapists take veterans on different outings.

Gwen was born and raised in Syracuse and is excited to be back home giving to her community.
